Play OverviewPlay Overview

People Playground (2019) is a gruesome simulation game where you make contraptions to kill people. You place the wide-ranging objects, each with their own physics and properties, to create fatal scenarios for the test-dummy figures. Although not aiming to be photo-realistic, it stands out for how graphic the violence is and the creative ways you can use physics to set up deadly chain reactions.

You create vignettes by clicking and dragging different objects into the small game arena. Every object you can use in the game has a set of properties that determine how it interacts with anything in the world - and in particular, the sort of injury it can cause. Sharp items can stab people, conductive objects can electrocute, flammable objects can be used for fire and (of course) guns fire deadly projectiles.

The result is a game about extreme violence that attempts to be biologically accurate. It's not a game for those not comfortable with body horror. Still, for those with the maturity and stomach for violence, there is a creative game here. Some play by setting up imaginative evil James-Bond-villain-style killer contraptions. Others use the system as a means of bone-crunching gruesome puppet theatre.

Content Rating

This game has not yet been rated, but we anticipate it is likely to be rated PEGI 18.

The nature of the game, although simple and cartoon-like, means that it depicts shooting, stabbing, burning, poisoning, tearing, vaporising and crushing. These injuries are depicted with rag-doll physics made more disturbing by added realism. For example, if you shoot someone you see blood, flesh and brain matter. If there's a stomach injury you'll see blood, flesh and fat surrounding the area of impact. If a character injures an artery you see them bleeding out while laying on the ground. There is dismemberment and decapitation.

The developer states "This is a sandbox game with extreme cartoon gore. Blood, bones, organs, all of it. The humans in this game do not resemble real humans, show no emotion, and make no sound. Despite that, it may still be disturbing to some."

Skill Level

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Younger players can create the scenes and experiment with different objects. Again, this requires considerable maturity to cope with the violence and parents should check the game first.
