Southfield is a cooperative farming simulator where your crops are as strange and powerful as the rag-doll antics and wacky world you explore. Play focuses on planting seeds and gathering resources to expand your farm and provide for the locals. But it stands out from other farming simulators for its comical physics, unpredictable crop growth and bizarre landscape to discover.
You play as Bud, an unstable creature on an island full of wacky plant life and friendly locals. To achieve your dream farm, you must work with wobbly physics to cultivate the land and find seeds by exploring the island on foot or in your buggy. The different crops you can grow have a range of uses, from emitting light to chiming tunes or allowing you to glide. You can build your farmhouse using gathered materials and protect your crops from the mischievous Ruffians.
As you progress, you can automate your farm using harvesters, conveyor belts and various other machinery earned by completing quests. By experimenting with combining crops you work to discover every hybrid and complete your journal. There are different outfits and colour customisations to unlock for your Bud, which are fun when playing online with friends.
The result is a game that takes farming simulation in a playfully chaotic direction. The sandbox aspect of the game and the ragdoll physics encourage silly fun and experimentation with movement mechanics.
