Play Overview
Brawlout (2017) is a fighting game with 4-player battles in levels with lots of platforms. You try to knock the other players off and win the round. As you inflict damage you can hit them further. Like, Super Smash Bros you also have dash, melee and ranged attacks, but here with original characters and maps.
There are 25 playable characters (including cameos from Hyper Light Drifter, Guacamelee!, Yooka-Laylee, and Dead Cells) each with unique attacks that are unlocked as you play, along with new arenas. The majority of characters can't block or grab which gives emphasis to large combo attacks, and building up your Rage Meter, which once full allows you to deal a high amount of damage.
You have the option to play against the computer or against online players, in normal, hard or arcade mode matches. There are some single player and online tournaments too. Winning battles in any more earns you currency to unlock outfits, characters and maps.
While there are a lot of brawling games to choose from, Brawlout stands out for its play for four people on the couch. It avoids the commercial feel of bigger franchises like Super Smash Bros, but still offers a polished experience that requires skill and learning of a large variety of movement mechanics.
