Our examiner, Goran Wallgren, first checked Colors! 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 10 weeks ago.
It was originally a fan-made app for Nintendo DS but was then released in 2008 on iOS, Android and PS Vita. More recently, it has been re-imagined in the following variants:
- Colors! 3D (Nintendo 3DS) - This version features drawing on multiple layers to create a stereoscopic image that can be viewed in 3D on the upper screen. It also has support for local multiplayer, enabling several people to collaborate on a single drawing.
- Colors! Live (Nintendo Switch) - bundled with a SonarPen stylus (available here) that connects by cable into the headphone jack and offers pressure-sensitive drawing. It adds a new game mode called Colors Quest that challenges you to spend a little time each day on painting using varying themes and rules. You get rewards as you progress and improve over time.
More info on how to get this game and its accessory stylus can be found on the community website which also has an online gallery with literally millions of user-created artworks that can be replayed to study how they were created.
