Feed the Deep is an underwater diving and collecting adventure. You control a diver who must traverse a system of caves to find gold and other items they can sell for more equipment. It stands out for how it uses light and sound to create an eerie underwater labyrinth that's both disorienting and inviting.
You repeatedly dive down into the deep and bring back items on each run. As you do you can unlock more to buy in the shop and steadily have more equipment to help your dives. The caves are freshly generated for each go so you never know quite what you are doing to find. There are lots of tools to help you navigate, such as laying a coloured cord behind you to find your way back, but how you use them is up to you.
As you progress you start to encounter enemies. But rather than combat, these enemies latch onto you and send you into a spin. Coming out of this and figuring out which way is up is a challenge. You need to use things like the direction of your bubbles (or drop an item that floats) to reorient yourself.
The result is a game loop where you dive down, collect gold, buy equipment and repeat. You die quite a lot but then repeat with a bit more equipment and more experience. It's a game about the fear of small spaces, but also it's a game about the tools available to find a way to thrive.
