Each tun you can either move or shoot at enemy pieces. Once you have shot you have to move on your next go. Each turn, the enemy pieces move in accordance with Chess rules, but home in on you to put you to a bloody death.
As well as keeping the enemy pieces at bay by aiming your shotgun, you also need to avoid a classic checkmate too. Your aim is to get to and kill the enemy king. Doing this progresses you to the next more difficult floor. You will fail but when you do you start again with a bit more experience.
As you progress you gain special ability cards that change what you can do. However, these also come at a price as they often trigger new or more powerful enemies for you to take on. It becomes a puzzle which are best to use and how to capitalise on them.
Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE 10+ for Fantasy Violence, Mild Blood.
The game does include red splashes that look like blood when enemies are shot. However, the targets are not people but chess pieces. Still, these Chess pieces do have faces (particularly the bosses) and are human-like. There is shooting from close range with a shotgun.
10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. You need to think ahead and use your pieces to your advantage. Resilience when things don't go to play (along with some creative thinking) are important.
