The Wratch's Den (2023) is a strategy game where you play a dungeon keeper with minions to construct defences and hunt for treasure. You switch between your minions to dig out the dungeon, construct new tunnels and expand your architectural and training options. It stands out for how complex it becomes while retaining its miniature aesthetic and simple challenge.
It's a tiny dungeon-keeping adventure where you protect the Wratch from the heartless heroes coming for prestige and treasure. You do this by expanding your lair until you find the three Orbs of Infinite Power so that the Wratch can restore their Dominion.
Each turn you dig out gold, carry it back to the Wratch and buy new monsters, traps and technologies. The catch is that each action moves the clock towards the next adventurer coming for your treasure.
As you progress you build an underground labyrinth with all sorts of defences. Upgrade your orcs and goblins in the school, craft new weapons and armour in the blacksmith or purchase your way to victory in the market.
The result is a beautifully balanced dungeon-defending challenge that grows with your ambition and is different each time you attempt a new run.
