Metavaxx (2023) is a shooting game where you play a vaccine out to destroy infected cells (or peacefully clear your way around them). You direct yourself through the levels, identifying which cells are infected from Minesweeper-style number clues.
Your mission is to train a new vaccine to work in different body samples. To do this you need to identify which cells are infected using your Minesweeper detective skills. Each cell is marked with a number that shows how many adjacent cells are infected. You can just shoot these infections and the enemies they contain, or clear out the healthy cells around them to more cleanly dispatch with their badness.
To progress your vaccine and get upgrades, you need to keep your living cell count high. This means working out which cells are infected, then keeping the destruction to a minimum. Carefully choosing upgrades to match the order of the body samples you are taking on is key to success.
The result is a shooting game that also requires careful and logical thinking. In fact, it's a shooting game that you can progress with only minimal shooting.
