Skater XL (2020) is a skateboard simulation game. But unlike other skateboarding games, Skater XL steers clear of objectives or narrative. Instead you can explore a variety of maps and locations at your own pace, finding new places to try different tricks.

At first Skater XL's controls seem like other skateboarding games, however, the game extends Skate's intuitive controls by applying each stick to one of your feet. This scheme makes it simple to start but more challenging to master. Time is needed to learn how this lets you pull of different tricks. This mechanical challenge of the game lends it longevity for those that stick with it.

The game's minimalism has made it great for community creators who have developed game-specific magazines, fashion brands, and maps. It's also a good challenge to play in families where progress isn't dictated by pouring more hours into the game but by learning intuitive movements.
