Sol Cresta is a classic-style arcade shooting game. It follows previous Cresta games (Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta) focus on bullet dodging, ship augmenting action. Here though you have three ships that can combine their weapons in different ways.

After a brief history lesson about the fiction behind the game you are into the shooting and dodging action. The world scrolls past at a steady pace and with it a range of airborne and land based enemies to shoot. You must pay close attention to the incoming bullets of which there are hundreds, while also aiming to destroy complete waves of enemies.

You can dock, split and reform your three ships in different ways to access a variety of weapon attacks to dispatch the different enemies. This adds a degree of tactics to the frantic dodging and shooting. You need to collect items and pass through rings to gain the energy for formations and other offensive options.

We don't often mention graphics and audio, but in the case the game's authentic modernisation of the previous Cresta look and sound really add to the experience. The result is a game that serves those sentimental about the series as well as a great way into the genre for newcomers.

You can play the other games in the series:
  • Moon Cresta (1980) - Re Released on Switch
  • Terra Cresta (1985) - Re Released on PlayStation 4, Switch
  • Sol Cresta (2022) - Switch, PC, PlayStation 4
