Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked The Things We Lost In The Flood 20 months ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 14 months ago.
Play Overview
Play involves paddling over bridges and through trees. There are sad and sometime shocking signs of the dead and decaying. Things swing from the morbidity of hanging corpses to the tranquility of listening to the rain while the melancholy music haunts the background.
It seems like a predictable experience, but there's more here than you expect and plenty of surprises along the way. Some of these are the game itself, but others come from the player's messages you discover in bottles.
You have 150 characters to, as the developer puts it, "tell a story, share a secret, try to help a player or even harm them." Once you have read other player's messages you can decide whether to throw it back into the ocean or destroy it forever.
The result is not only an emotive game, but a deposit of over 45,000 player written epistles (17,000 have been destroyed) floating around the ocean.

Age Ratings
You can encounter other peoples messages that are only lightly filtered (a handful of swear words and sexual terms). Although the game is pixilated there are scenes that include hanging corpses and some (very) pixilated nudity. There's also implied drowning.
Skill Level
14+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Older teenagers who can process the idea of a flooded world and the novelty of sending and receiving letters from other players will enjoy this slow paced game.
