Play OverviewPlay Overview

Void Tyrant (2021) is a battle game where you build a deck of cards to beat opponents in Blackjack-style challenges. Like classic Blackjack, you draw cards to build the biggest total but must avoid going bust at 13 points. Here though, you stack the deck in your favour by adding allies and weapons that let you influence the scores. It stands out for expanding Blackjack into a fantasy battle without losing the simplicity that makes the classic game so appealing.

In each battle, you take turns to play cards and score points. You can weigh things in your favour by playing attacking or defensive cards that give or take points from you and your opponent. On top of this are layers of bonuses and longer-lasting effects that grant interlocking advantages if used well.

After each battle, you choose how to upgrade your home town and related deck of ability cards. Get this right and you are prepared to battle the next quirky alien, disarm traps and upgrade your spaceport. If you win you are rewarded with artefacts and treasure from the defeated enemies. Get powerful enough and you can take on the next challenging boss.

The result is a simple game that offers lots of ways for you to play it. As with games like Balatro, finding a new card and then building a deck around its abilities is a lot of fun.
