Wéko The Mask Gatherer is an action role-play game where you explore a fairytale world to gather powerful ancient masks. You traverse lush forests and deep caverns to meet the people of the world and use your mask powers to defeat enemies. It stands out not only for this infusion of mask-based abilities into the open-world adventure format but also for the blend of Eastern and Western influences on the land itself.

You play Wéko on a journey across the wide reaches of the world, in a quest to find seven ancient masks imbued with magical powers. Play involves exploring the world and fighting enemies with your sword in quick and precise combat, where dodges and well-times strikes are essential. As you unlock each mask, putting it on offers unique abilities. This provides new ways to solve complex environmental puzzles, not dissimilar to those found in modern Zelda titles, and help the inhabitants of the towns you come across.

Masks also give you an edge in combat, offering powers essential to overcoming the seemingly insurmountable odds. As the world opens up, the blend of Japanese architecture with that of the developer's own Switzerland home becomes apparent, making for a unique mix of sensibilities to immerse yourself in.

The result is a game where the masks you collect on your journey offer the key to success in a world steeped in an imagined blend of culture and heritage. Slowly unlocking new masks with unique abilities, which let you approach puzzles, combat, and quests in new and inventive ways, makes for a creative and deeply rewarding play experience.
