Play Overview
Burd (2019) is a jumping and flying game where you play a pixelated bird who can feed worms to a larger bird to save his world. But to get the worms you have to sacrifice eggs. It starts simple but soon feels ominous, dark and questionable. It's an intentionally difficult game that tempts you to make things easier by sacrificing eggs and spilling their blood.
Play involves pressing left or right and jump. At first you only have a couple of jumps in a row, but as you progress you get more. This is a game about more than platforming though, it forces you to take moral choices that affect the multiple endings.
You have to decide whether you make your missions easier by not breaking eggs, or breaking them to make a way to teleport back. The game doesn't tell you what the results are of these choices, but it clearly offers different ways to play.
Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Burd 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated a year ago.
