Play Overview
Butter Royale (2020) is an online shooting game where you fire food rather than bullets in 32 player battles to the death. It's a battle royale but with the violence focused through silly food-related weapons. There's a real challenge here, but one that has been made more suitable for younger players.
Play is solo or in squads of four. You drop into an arena like you do in Fortnite and have 5 minutes to emerge the winner. You target other players with hot sauce-shooting, bread-blasting weapons that knock out your opponents. You can also find Power-Ups to heal your squad or trap your enemies in food.
You can play as over 80 different characters. Along with the online battles are offline modes where you fend off computer-controlled enemies. Online you will need to learn how to take advantage of the map and different weapons.
The game is tailored to younger players. The movement and shooting are simple. There's no building like other Battle Royale games. There's no shrinking safe zone that adds more pressure that kids can struggle with. There is no chat. There are also no in-app purchases or adverts as this is an Apple Arcade game.
As you progress in the game you earn currency that lets you unlock exclusive items. You can complete daily and weekly challenges to earn experience and unlock exclusive seasonal characters and melees.

Skill Level
8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. The silliness is fun for very young players. But there is actually quite a bit of strategy, planning and thinking here. Add a controller can help players do better, as can playing on a TV with Apple TV.
