Play OverviewPlay Overview

Descenders (2019) is a downhill mountain biking game with a focus on skill. In each downhill run, your goal is to score as many points as possible by completing skill-based challenges and executing as many tricks and flips as you can, all while you try to avoid wiping out. Of course, the faster that you do all of that, the higher score you'll post on the leaderboard.

The game provides a number of beautifully presented environments to race through, all of which have their own unique elements. Deserts come with a large number of hills to perform aerial tricks, while forests provide lots of tight turns and trackside trees to avoid, which makes it tricky to ride at full speed. It doesn't end there though, as you'll find yourself racing down an icy glacier, riding on the rooftops of Favelas and there may even be a volcano in there too.

However, what makes Descenders unique, are the roguelike elements, which means the tracks always have a random element to their design and layout. Complete an entire run in any environment without bailing out too many times, and you get to face the challenge of a boss level — a steeper, tricker course that has a massive jump at the climax.

As you race, you'll earn rep (reputation) points and these are key to unlocking the game's customisable elements. Progress well in the game and earn enough points and you'll be able to deck yourself out in new gear and try out the various different bikes and paint jobs the game has on offer.

Our examiner, Wesley Williams, first checked Descenders 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 7 months ago.

Content Rating

This game has been rated PEGI 3.
Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Skill Level

9+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. It's an exuberant game that appeals to youngsters. You do need to cope with the levels rushing towards you and making fast reactions. But the ability to keep trying again reduces the focus on pure reaction and thinking ahead skill. In fact really young players can be good at this by trusting their instincts (although some patience and resilience at failure is also needed).
