Play OverviewPlay Overview

Grow Up (2016) is a running and jumping adventure. It is the sequel to 2015's Grow Home and extends the real physics exploration that lets you push, pull, climb and direct how plants grow in the world.

Grow Up builds on the gameplay of its predecessor. You again are in control of a robot named B.U.D, who can climb on landscapes, pick up items and manipulate objects with the game's physics. Your task is to direct the stalks of Starplants towards energy sources to help them grow so that you can access new parts of the world and recover parts of your ship.

New to Grow Up, is the ability to scan plants and discover their properties - like enabling B.U.D to jump high or launch into the air. You access these abilities by plant a seed for the related plant. As you progress you can gain the ability to jetpack, glide, and roll.

It's the unusual way of getting around that stands out in Grow Up. You can grab onto things in the world by hold a button down for each of your hands. This, the tranquil music, and the way you can progress at your own pace, make it a unique and relaxing challenge.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Grow Up 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 4 months ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 3 because it features occasional, very mild violence in a comical context. The intro of the game shows your ship getting hit by asteroids, after which you crash on an alien planet. The planet features a small amount of environmental hazards, such as Venus fly trap plants. When your robot falls from great heights, falls in one of the oceans or dies in another way, it falls apart like Lego. Immediately after this, you reappear at the last save station.

Skill Level

9+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. You need to be able to consider the consequences of how you grow things and their direction of travel. There's also relatively complex traversal of the 3D world and puzzle solving to unblock ways forward.
