Play involves working your way around the world to find enemies, defeat them for experience and loot. This enables you to power up and access the next areas. It's a classic Zelda style adventure but with bosses that require more fighting and less repetition.
As with the developers previous game, Shovel Knight, it's the attention to detail and authentic recreation of a play style from years gone by that appeals here. You encounter a cast of bizarre characters, search out secrets in an array of exotic locales, and illuminate the omnipresent darkness in Mina the Hollower
The result is a world that looks like it's been pulled from a Gameboy or NES. Only here it's a huge, dark world brimming with secrets, challenging battles, and interconnected level design. It's an invitation to descend into the depths with a bone-chilling, yet heartwarming tale inspired by Victorian Gothic horror.
