Video Game The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Review
The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (2017) departs from the previous Zelda formula with the scale and depth of its world. You walk, fly, ride and climb your way through a landscape that varies in climate, terrain, inhabitants and vegetation. Weather and the passage of the sun and moon extend the deep encounter with the fantastical world, but it’s the sense of history in the dilapidated buildings and long-untouched wilds that draw you in. You must work with the land, foraging for food, scaling snow-covered mountains and searching for shade in scalding deserts to continue your quest to uncover its history and restore balance.

Our examiner, Ben Kendall, first checked The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Andy Robertson and updated 4 days ago.

This is a magical world that exists not only as a backdrop for adventure but as a living, breathing environment that must be negotiated as intelligently and carefully as any monster you fight.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for depictions of non-realistic-looking violence towards human-like or animal-like characters. During scenes of violence, bright lights are shown on impact of attacks. When the player character Link takes damage he flashes orange, and he continues to repeatedly flash red when running very low on health. Some attacks can knock him to the floor for a short time, but he quickly gets up and carries on fighting. When he is defeated he falls down to the floor and the screen reads ‘game over’, there are no visible injuries on his body.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE 10+ for Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, Use of Alcohol. As players explore the open-world environment, they can forage for materials, explore shrines, and engage in melee-style combat against fantastical creatures (e.g., goblins, skeletons, centaurs). Players use swords, axes, clubs, and bows to defeat enemies that generally disappear amid puffs of smoke. One brief sequence depicts a battlefield strewn with the bodies of enemy creatures; in the background, a few bodies appear to be impaled by spears. The game contains some mildly suggestive material: fairies with moderate cleavage and/or exaggerated-size breasts; dialogue such as "I get to see a young hunk draw a bow again?" and "If I have to have something pounce on me, why couldn't it be a lady?" During the course of the game, a shop owner tells Link that she only serves "...drinks that are definitely just for adults..."; players can also encounter a drunken character that occasionally hiccups.
