Play OverviewPlay Overview

Horizon Chase 2 (2015) is the latest game in the Horizon Chase series of arcade racing games with a focus on competitive fun rather than realism; its graphics make it look like it was plucked from the nineties’ arcades, with a nod to Outrun and Lotus Turbo Challenge. It balances modern affordances with retro visuals to create a brilliant way for families to race each other.

Four players can race each other, locally or over the internet, as they battle to learn each track’s twists and turns, manage their turbo, which grants you a temporary increase in speed, and collect fuel. The controls are less nuanced than games like Mario Kart, with simple steering and rudimentary collision becoming part of the chaotic fun and levelling the playing field to give any player, regardless of age or experience, a chance to win. Each of the 55 tracks based on real locations is excellent, with the added challenge of finding every blue token and perfectly managing your fuel.

As you progress and win more races, you unlock new cars (10 in total), wheels, and paint jobs, which you can customise your cars with. There are lots of different modes to participate in, from team-based challenges where you work with other players to emerge victorious, to simple races where it's every racer for themselves.

The result is a fun throwback to arcade racers that eschews the precision of other modern racing games to provide a fun and lighthearted play experience that's a great place to start your video game racing journey.

The blistering pace, simple steering and rudimentary collision detection are part of the fun and level the playing field for all ages more than the nuanced controls of games like Mario Kart. This is a great place to start your video game racing journey.

There have been several previous games in the Horizon Chase series of games:
  • Horizon Chase (also known as Horizon Chase: World Tour) (2015) iOS, Android
  • Horizon Chase Turbo (2018) PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Switch.
  • Horizon Chase Turbo - Rookie Series (2019) is a free downloadable extra for Horizon Chase Turbo that tailors the game for beginners and younger players: twenty-four selected races with easier, computer-controlled cars and without the need to collect fuel. This also enables you to unlock each track just by finishing. It’s a great way to extend the game to include everyone on the sofa.
  • Horizon Chase 2 (2022) iOS Apple Arcade, expected on other platforms later.

This is a Race game. You can play with 1 to 4 players in the same room or as a 4-player online game. Horizon Chase 2 features both online multiplayer and local split-screen play. You can play multiplayer in all game modes so you can form a crew to unlock rewards or compete against one another in races and other challenges. Horizon Chase Turbo had the same local multiplayer play but didn't have online play.

Along with racing four players at a time, it’s also a fun game for competing for time trials and circuit scores. Who can get the fastest lap time, finish time, collect the most tokens and have the most fuel left? You can extend this competition to friends and family outside the home with the online ‘Ghost Mode’ where you see opponents as a ghost car that you must beat.
