The War to End All Wars (2021) is a point-and-click game set in a World War One battlefield visitor centre. However, as you interact with the exhibits you get taken back in time to live the experience through the eyes of a soldier. Unusually, it uses traditional adventure game mechanics to create an educational presentation with well researched period detail and text information about the life of a soldier in a World War One trench.

You start walking down a road towards the visitor centre. As you reach it, you become aware that the scene has changed and you are now back in time. Explore further and you are returned to the present.
Once you get in the trench this time-slip happens again and you find yourself in a first person view of a soldier back in the past. This back and forth continues as you explore the exhibit. You escape a collapsing trench and go "over the top". Each time telling a different part of the soldier's story and adding first hand emotion to the experience. There are no other people to meet and you are not made to fight or encounter dead bodies, but it still manages to convey what it would have been like to be part of the conflict.
The result is a well researched game, using period music and sound to great effect, and is an excellent introduction for children studying the period, and would be suitable as a classroom resource.
