Play OverviewPlay Overview

Towerborne is a fighting adventure game where you take on repeated missions to defend humanity's final city from fantasy monsters. You use a variety of different weapon classes to attack enemies, and when you die, you start again but with all the loot you gained. It stands out for how it works this repeated death into the narrative, with characters remembering their past lives, and for its world that evolves over time as the developer extends the realms and their inhabitants.

In a magical fantasy world, monsters have overrun the towns and cities of the land, driving civilisation back to its final beacon of hope, the city tower of Belfry. As a fighter from the spirit realm, it's your job to rise up against this evil and defeat it, saving the world and becoming a true hero.

You set out on missions from Belfry into the surrounding land by yourself or with other players, and fight monsters in brawling combat with your arsenal of weapons in fast-paced combat. Weapons are divided into four distinct classes, each with its own benefits and drawbacks, so experimenting to find the best type for your play style is essential. You can recruit extra warriors called Umbra to join you, combining your powers for stronger attacks and unlocking unique abilities and skills.

When you die, you get reborn back at Belfry with all the loot, weapons, and upgrades you got on the previous run, in addition to the memories from your past life, letting you interact with characters in new ways and progress the narrative further. You then set out on your next adventure, progressing slightly further each time as you steadily grow in power.

The result is a game reminiscent of Castle Crashers but brought into the games-as-service era. It challenges you to experiment with different weapons, companions, and strategies, to find your optimal way to play. Gradually defeating more monsters each run as you watch your strength increase, then returning to Belfry to see the impact of your work, is hugely rewarding.
