Play Overview
Dragon Quest Treasures (2022) is a lighthearted and more approachable version of the popular Dragon Quest role-play games. Along with the exploration, light battles and resource collection is a central monster-hunting hide-and-seek challenge where you get clues to their location and steadily home in on where they are. It's this newcomer-friendly play that works best, combing fun activities with an open world to explore for youngsters.
You play Erik and Mia, exploring the islands of Draconia and competing against rival gangs to find treasure. Along the way, they meet a diverse cast of characters and recruit friendly monsters into their party. Play involves traversing the world and taking on combat encounters. These are mostly simple button-mashing fights and are less involved compared to the main Dragon Quest series.
As you progress you build up a team of monsters that each off unique abilities for both combat and exploration. Still, the primary focus here is finding and collecting the treasures, that you locate with your Forte ability that points you to the general area and then each monster with you offers a different snapshot of where it is.
While Dragon Quest old-timers may find this light on more serious action, newcomers appreciated the more laid-back adventure. The main story is supplemented with all manner of side quests: monster scouting, treasure hunting, base-building, material gathering and crafting. Or, if you want, just spend time exploring the islands.
The result is an approachable monster-recruiting game that offers surprises, humour, and relaxed gaming fun. It lets players explore at their own pace and offers a wide range of activities to keep them entertained.
