Play OverviewPlay Overview

Knack (2013) is a platform action series where you control a shape-shifting robot called Knack. Through beautiful arcade-style battles and worlds, you collect Relics that enable you to grow bigger and gain more powers.

Jumping, dodging, punching, and using enhanced energy-based powers, you take on enemies and save humankind from a species known as the Goblins. It's a fighting game but with a Pixar feel.

You work through a series of long, linear levels, journeying from start to finish, while battling enemies, such as humans, robots, and vehicles, finding secret hidden objects that give Knack upgrades, climbing, destroying objects, and completing jumping and switch-based puzzles.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Knack 4 years ago. It was re-examined by Ellen Robertson and updated 5 months ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for frequent mild violence. The game features both fantasy characters and human-like characters, all of whom can engage in combat against Knack. When hit the fantasy becomes disassembled and disappears, likewise the human-like characters will fall over and then disappear.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE 10+ for Fantasy Violence. Players use punches, jumping attacks, and various super moves (e.g., storm attack, shockwave, blast) to defeat human soldiers and fantasy creatures (e.g., giant bugs, goblins, robots). As players progress through the game, Knack can grow in size to battle larger enemies including tanks, mechanized battle suits, and attack planes. The somewhat frenetic combat is accompanied by impact sounds and mild explosions.

Skill Level

9+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Younger players need to cope with the frantic action and button pressing. Some puzzles require lateral thinking and good navigation. Harder sections of the game require resilience and forward planning. There's a strong story to follow that needs some maturity to appreciate.
