Play OverviewPlay Overview

Tape to Tape (2023) is a sports hockey game where you lead your team to victory in increasingly chaotic and over-the-top clashes. Bribe the referee and exploit powerful abilities to tilt the odds in your favour and continue your winning streak, then upgrade your team some more and start again. Like Bloodbowl or Speedball, it swaps realism for a more lighthearted and exuberant take on sports, while still requiring strategy in amongst the bombast.

You take charge of a team of ragtag hockey players at the bottom of the league and hone their skills so they can start winning matches. As you climb up the rankings, you can hire new players and shake up your team structure to create the most effective and successful team possible and emerge victorious in the championship. When you lose, which is inevitable, you spend money for upgrades, then start over again with increased potential.

Play involves controlling your team in super-short hockey matches. Along with a focus on the usual tactics, you can bribe the referee to gain an advantage or unlock special upgrades for your characters. Special items add another way to gain an edge, while also combining specific players in your team can also give you an unfair boost - like time going faster when you're in the lead, or an increase in shot accuracy or power.

The result is an over-the-top fusion of a sports game with the roguelike genre that offers a skill-based challenge where experimentation, ambition, and perseverance are essential. Gradually improving between each run to become the ultimate team is both fun and offers room for novel and unusual tactics to emerge.
