Play OverviewPlay Overview

Assassin's Creed Odyssey (2018) is an action role-playing game set in the years 431–422 BCE during a mythological history of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. You play as a male or female mercenary fighting on both sides and attempting to unite their family.

You can climb the environment extensively, interact with different characters, collect items to unlock more the location and intervene in key historical moments. It’s become popular because of the detailed cities, and beautiful locations it creates for players to explore.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey has more role-play elements than earlier games in the series. With this come branching quests and multiple endings. You can choose to play as either Alexios or Kassandra, two siblings. And the game tracks your notoriety with the characters you meet, adjusting their reactions to you. As you progress you upgrade your abilities, skills and armour.

Odyssey continues the naval combat from Black Flag that lets you helm Hellenistic-era warships to explore the Aegean Sea. This theatre of war is expanded with a "War System" that lets you choose contracts from mercenaries and participate in different large-scale battles against hostile factions. The results of these battles changes a faction's influence over a region.

Of note to families with younger children not old enough to play the game but keen to explore the settings, there is a Discovery Tour mode and stand alone version on PC for Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla that provides a violence-free setting. This enables players to explore the full map without the pressure of quests and combat. It also adds enhanced cinematic scenes to focus on the smaller details being discussed during a tour. There are also quizzes to see how much history players have taken in during their exploration.
