Adopt Me! (2017) is one of the most popular Roblox games. In a rudimentary way, it simulates daily life. You can build a home, look after pets and make friends. Like many Roblox games, it's the combination of an avid community of players and freeform play that makes it popular. As with playground games, it evolves over time as developers add features suggested by the players. It's one of the most popular Roblox games getting over 1 billion visits a year (in 2022).
The main focus is on adopting, raising and collecting the 65 pets. You can also decorate your house and unlock vehicles. Much of this you can do without making additional purchases, but as you progress there is a drive to sell items that enable you to access rarer pets.
There are five ranks: common, uncommon, rare, ultra-rare, and legendary. The most valuable legendary pets include Dragons, King/Queen Bee, Owl, Crow, Reindeer, Turtle, Kangaroo, Unicorn, Griffin, Ninja Monkey and Kitsune. You train your pets by completing tasks. Once you have four fully grown they can be traded for even rarer Neon pets with glowing parts. You can then do this four times to trade them in for a Mega Neon Pet that glows rainbow.
To create a Mega Neon Diamond Griffin would require three Diamond Eggs from a minimum of 1170 consecutive days of playing. That is assuming you hatched the same creature from your Diamond egg each time (1 in 3 chance), so the actual number of days would be much higher.
This ecosystem of pets both encourages extended play time as well as the purchasing of currency. Players can also trade these pets with each other, which can lead to disputes if trades are not fair. Children can worry about being scammed because of the level of investment (time and money) they make in their pets.

Play Time: It takes between 10 minutes and half an hour to play a round of this game. Although it's played in short bursts each day, this is a game you will play for a long time over a number of months in a similar way to Animal Crossing.

Many families choose to pay for an In-Game Subscription that grants access to features and Robux currency for use in any Roblox games without the risk of individual transactions. Outside the game, you can make larger purchases.
This subscription grants 450 Robux a month as well as discounts on buying more Robux and access to selling and trading items with other subscribed Roblox players. The games generally encourage the spending of Robux to progress as a proportion of the money spent goes to the person who creates the game.
You can purchase the Bucks currency to buy food, toys, gifts, eggs, and vehicles. You get Bucks by looking after Babies or Pet's ailments or just playing the game in general. But you can also use Robux (purchased with real money) to gain Bucks to spend in the game or other specific items.
Gifts: The Gifts offer a box "loot box" style chance of unboxing a legendary, limited-time vehicle, such as a Train, a Banana Car, or a Hoverboard. You can also trade items with other players.
Eggs: These allow you to hatch a pet. The type of egg determines how likely you are to get a rare pet:

Adopt Me Scams: The game has problems with players "scamming" each other out of valuable items through trading. Tricks like promising to give items after trades, or swapping for other Roblox items result in unfair trades or scams. You can report these in the game via the Report button. New measures to reduce scams and thefts in the game were introduced in Nov 2020.
